As our website has been completely redone I wanted to include a summary of what has
transpired with our son, Charlie. Our old site had included a running commentary of what was
happening in our lives regarding Charlie. So many family, friends, customers, and visitors to our
site have provided support and many have phoned to ask how Charlie is now, so I wanted to
provide an update.
October 31st, 2007 our 15 year old son, Charlie, was diagnosed with cancer. What followed was
a whirlwind of doctor’s visits, hospitalizations, surgeries, and chemotherapy treatments, all
with intensive prayer for his full recovery.
Charlie turned 16 in January 2008 and was still undergoing chemotherapy at that time. It took it’
s toll on him, as it does on so many cancer victims, but he was strong and never complained
about his treatments. He experienced the care of excellent nurses and exceptional physicians
at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. We are so grateful to each of them.
The chemotherapy and surgeries are now done. His port has been removed, and his hair has
grown back – darker and curlier than before, but it’s a head full of beautiful hair and we’re just
glad it’s back. Charlie entered a special program associated with his high school to get caught
up on credits, and has come a long way in making up lost time. We are hoping that he will still
graduate on time, and it seems to be within the realm of possibility.
Charlie is back out in the woods, hunting and trapping, catching snakes and enjoying wildlife
and is now thinking of college and future plans. His tumor markers are all negative, and he is
being monitored carefully for possible return of another type of tumor that he also had mixed in
with the cancer.
The doctors tell us that if his cat scans are still negative in March of 2010, that it is very likely
that these tumors will not return. We continue to pray that he will remain healthy, and that he
will not have any long term issues as a result of the chemo, or return of the tumors or cancer.
Thank you so much to each and every one of you who have prayed, phoned, and cared about
Charlie and our family. We appreciate you more than you could ever know. I will update this
page as we have cat scans completed and receive further news. Thank you for your continued
prayers. May God bless each of you.
